My story

I'm Charlie, Co-Founder of EV & Hybrid Pre-Purchase Inspection QLD (EVHPPI). I have 20 years of experience in the automotive industry, with my journey beginning through work experience at a Volkswagen dealership in the UK. That opportunity developed into my Volkswagen apprenticeship and the start of my professional career. Over the years, I progressed through extensive manufacturer training and increasingly technical roles, ultimately achieving Volkswagen Master Technician, the highest technical qualification within the Volkswagen brand.

Throughout my career, I've developed a real passion for vehicle diagnostics and understanding how modern vehicle systems work together. I'm an Australian-qualified Automotive Electrician and Light Vehicle Mechanic, with extensive experience in complex electrical fault finding, vehicle diagnostics, high-voltage systems and ADAS technology. I also hold Australian nationally recognised Battery Electric Vehicle and Hybrid Electric Vehicle Inspection and Servicing Skill Sets, providing specialist training in the safe inspection, testing and servicing of modern EV and hybrid vehicles.

My experience also extends into the smash repair and specialist hail repair industries, where I worked extensively with damaged and repaired vehicles. This involved assessing vehicles for damage, carrying out post-repair diagnostics, working with ADAS systems and helping ensure the correct repair methods and procedures were followed. It gave me a clear understanding of how previous damage or repairs can affect a vehicle's electrical, mechanical and safety systems.

As vehicles have become more advanced, particularly with EVs, hybrids, high-voltage systems, complex electronics and driver-assistance technology, the amount of information available when assessing a vehicle has changed dramatically. For me, it's not simply about finding a fault — it's about understanding the information the vehicle is giving you, interpreting the diagnostic data correctly and combining that with what can be observed during a non-invasive inspection to build a clearer picture of the vehicle in front of you.

I've also been extremely fortunate throughout my career to have had some great mentors from the very beginning. They've shared their knowledge and experience with me, challenged me to keep learning and helped shape the man I am today. Many of those professional relationships have grown into lifelong friendships, and as my own career has progressed, I've tried to carry that same approach forward — continuing to learn, sharing knowledge and surrounding myself with people I trust and respect.

One of those friendships ultimately led to EVHPPI and my Co-Founder, Mark. Our combined experience and shared belief in doing things properly became the foundation for what we wanted EVHPPI to be: great customer service and providing customers with meaningful information about the vehicle in front of them.

That's ultimately why we co-founded EVHPPI — to bring together our experience and expertise and create a service specifically designed for today's electric and hybrid vehicles. For me personally, it gives me the opportunity to bring together everything I've learned throughout my career — vehicle diagnostics, automotive electrical and mechanical systems, high-voltage technology, ADAS, and assessing previous vehicle damage and repairs — and put that knowledge to use for our customers.

Our aim is simple: to provide an independent, thorough and easy-to-understand assessment, backed by diagnostic data and documented evidence, so whether you're buying or selling, you have a clearer understanding of the vehicle in question and can make your decision with confidence.
